Want a stronger culture? Start here.

Culture Isn’t What You Say — It’s What You Tolerate

Every leader I meet says they want a strong, accountable culture. But here’s the hard truth:

Culture isn’t defined by your values on the wall. It’s defined by what you allow in the hall.

When you let small things slide — missed deadlines, poor communication, toxic comments — you’ve just told your team: this is okay here.

And people don’t follow what you say.
They follow what you tolerate.

🚨 The Silent Killers of Culture

Most culture problems don’t start with big scandals. They start small:

  • The teammate who always shows up late — and no one addresses it.

  • The manager who micromanages — and it’s excused as “just their style.”

  • The poor performance that’s shrugged off with, “That’s just how they are.”

Each one chips away at trust, accountability, and momentum.

✅ What to Do Instead: Inspect What You Expect

Here’s a simple culture check:

  1. Define It Clearly. Don’t just say “ownership” — show what ownership looks like.

  2. Model It Consistently. If you want respect, demonstrate respect under pressure.

  3. Enforce It Fairly. Don’t let small cracks widen. Address them early, directly, and with clarity.

Your team is a reflection of the standards you uphold and what you allow.

⚡ Quick Action for This Week

Ask yourself:

  • What’s one behavior I’ve been tolerating that I know I shouldn’t?

Then — have the conversation. Fix the leak before it sinks the ship.

That’s it for this one. Until next time, take care of yourself and your team and start building the culture you know you want!
